Collaborative Action Research: An Introduction

March 22, 4-5:30 p.m.
004 Bird Library

Do you hope to integrate your commitment to social change with your graduate research agenda? Do you want to think about developing a research project in collaboration with advocacy and/or activist organizations, but are worried about how such work will be viewed by your department, the IRB, and the academy? Drawing on over thirty years of involvement in numerous collaborative action research projects, as researcher and advisor, both in Central New York and in Brazil, Professor John Burdick (Anthropology) will help you think through the challenges and rewards of such projects, including

  • Identifying and approaching potential organizational partners
  • Developing rapport and trust
  • IRB considerations
  • Addressing academic objections
  • Communicating with professors, advisors, and committees about your work
