Transfer Students

About fifteen percent of undergraduates entering the university each year are transfer students. Transfer students are academically strong and enter at different levels in all of the University's academic programs. If you are considering transferring into one of our undergraduate programs, there are some important policies and procedures that you should be aware of to make the transition as smooth as possible for you.

If you plan to transfer from another college or university into Syracuse University's School of Education, we strongly recommend that you speak with our office as early as possible to evaluate your record and to plan your course of study.

Transferring to the School of Education from other Syracuse University Programs

Students transferring to other schools/colleges within the University (intra-University transfer) must meet the admission requirements of the new school/college that were in effect at the time of matriculation into the University. Submit internal transfer requests well before the start of the next semester to allow adequate review/processing time. If you are currently a Syracuse University student interested in an intra-university transfer to the School of Education you must meet the following cumulative grade point average (GPA) requirements for your desired program of study:

  • Inclusive Early Childhood Special Education: 3.0 GPA
  • Inclusive Elementary and Special Education: 3.0 GPA
  • Secondary Education (English, Math, Science, Social Studies & Spanish): 3.0 GPA
  • Health and Exercise Science: 3.0 GPA
  • Health and Physical Education: 3.0 GPA
  • Physical Education: 3.0 GPA
  • Selected Studies in Education: 2.80 GPA
  • Art Education: 3.0 GPA
  • Music Education: 3.00 GPA

You must submit an intra-university transfer application, available from the Office of Academic and Student Services in the School of Education, 111 Waverly Ave., Suite 230; in addition, a personal interview may be required. If you meet the cumulative GPA requirement, you are admitted on a space-available basis as determined by each particular education program. If your cumulative GPA does not meet the requirements, we can counsel you as to your best options.

The applicability of prior earned credit (both SU and transfer credit) will be evaluated for you. Intra-University transfer applications are held until the end of the semester when GPA's and student interest in entering the program are assessed.
