Transfer Students
About fifteen percent of undergraduates entering the university each year are transfer students. Transfer students are academically strong and enter at different levels in all of the University's academic programs. If you are considering transferring into one of our undergraduate programs, there are some important policies and procedures that you should be aware of to make the transition as smooth as possible for you.
Transfer students must meet the following cumulative grade point average (GPA) requirements for your desired program of study:
-
Inclusive Early Childhood Special Education: 2.80 GPA
-
Inclusive Elementary and Special Education: 2.80 GPA
-
Secondary Education Programs (English, Math, Science and Social Studies Education): 2.80 GPA
-
Health and Exercise Science: 2.80 GPA
-
Health and Physical Education: 2.80 GPA
-

-

-
Art Education: 2.80 GPA
-
Music Education: 3.00 GPA
Generally, some liberal arts and education courses will transfer, depending on your major. If you plan to transfer from another college or university into Syracuse University's School of Education, we strongly recommend that you speak with our Undergraduate Admissions Recruiter as early as possible to evaluate your record and to plan your course of study. The Undergraduate Admissions Recruiter in the School of Education can be reached at (315) 443-4269 or e-mail to
zmschust@syr.edu.
Transferring to the School of Education from other Syracuse University Programs

You must submit an intra-university transfer application, available from the Office of Academic and Student Services in the School of Education, 111 Waverly Ave., Suite 230; in addition, a personal interview may be required. If you meet the cumulative GPA requirement, you are admitted on a space-available basis as determined by each particular education program. If your cumulative GPA does not meet the requirements, we can counsel you as to your best options.
The applicability of prior earned credit (both SU and transfer credit) will be evaluated for you. Intra-University transfer applications are held until the end of the semester when GPA's and student interest in entering the program are assessed.
If you are considering transfer into one of our single programs in education, you may find the following course suggestions helpful. These courses may be taken by non-education students with advisement while you make the decision to transfer or while the intra-University transfer application is being processed.
